LIVING ARRANGEMENTS FOR PARTICIPANTS

You will live in open-air shelters with thatched roofs.  These shelters are similar in concept to the houses you will build.  You should bring hammocks with integral mosquito netting for sleeping; our shelters were built with hammock racks.  Generally our project works only during June and July to match time when school lets out for the summer in the US and so that our people have gone before hurricane season in the Caribbean.

Meals will be provided and are cooked by Dominicans from local supplies and recipes.  Thus you will truly “get to taste” the local culture.

You will do a lot of hiking from the shelters to the village, so good physical conditioning is important.  You can expect temperatures to stay above 85ºF.  Sea breezes during the day and mountain breezes at night make these temperatures more comfortable.

Attached are some Helpful Hints that could make your stay more enjoyable.
