COSTS AND OTHER INFORMATION
The Village Mountain Mission Project offers 9-day trips to build houses for the poor in the Dominican Republic. Fees are $475 per person for 2007 and $495 in 2008, which covers food, local transportation, and other expenses, but not airfare. Costs for anything other than a standard 9-day trip or costs for dates beyond summer of 2008 must be worked with the Project Director at villagemountainmission@yahoo.com. Requested changes to the standard plan, including non-standard arrival and leaving times, could incur other costs, which need to be worked in advance.
You should plan to fly to either Puerto Plata or Santiago, DR. Airfare depends on your starting point, group size, and advance purchase; the group rate from central Ohio to the Dominican Republic was $400-800 per person in 2007. Making reservations late can significantly increase your airfare.
There are ways to significantly reduce out-of-pocket costs. A Finance Guide in the Leaders Guide shows methods to reduce costs.
We suggest that you recommend that spending money be kept below $50 per person, although this does not include money used getting from home to the Dominican Republic and back (snacks, etc.).
